Today is Sunday Fun day here at cart3lfromlove.com. It’s also Pride month and with that being said we would like to talk about Drag and the underground ball culture.
We are family here. We are the mother and father of our clan. We pick individuals that are our great emerging talents and we showcase them. Our theme is from the old world of vintage drag aka the Ball Culture. If you don’t know anything about drag culture now is the time to sit down and grab some tea and have a kiki.

Drag queens are amazing individuals and talented. Where did the word drag come from? The first recorded use of “drag” to refer to actors dressed in women’s clothing is from 1870. “Dressed Resembling A Girl”. Ball culture and the house system. A ball is an event that drags queen made so they can showcase their talents. It’s like a fashion show but with a twist. The ball is an underground LGBT culture. Where they compete for trophies and prizes. You can walk, dance or compete in drag genres trying to pass as a gender and social class. Here are just some of the genres that people walk. Butch Queens first time in drag at a ball. Femme Queens, European Runway, Face, Body, Vogue. What are these? These are just some of the categories of the ball that they have created. Femme Queens are drag queens that can blend into the society and no one can tell that they are a man dress as a woman. Often a butch-queen category, featuring effects seen in a European fashion show. Butch queen is a much manlier version of the femme. The face category is about who has a classically beautiful face. Judges examine the eyes, the nose, the teeth, the lips and the structure of the face. While the category may call for an effect, ultimately the judges will only look at the face of a competitor, which should not have much makeup and should appear flawless. Body This category is about health. The judges will be looking for someone who looks attractive, and healthy. Do not confuse this with sexiness, as there is a completely different category for that. Vogue or Voguing consists of five elements duckwalk, catwalk, hands, floorwork, and spins and dip. The house culture and system. A house is basically their family. Houses are led by “mothers” and “fathers,” providing guidance and support for their house “children.” Houses that have gained and won trophies reach a rank of Legendary.Notable houses include House of Xtravaganza, House of Infiniti, House of Mizrahi, and House of Labeija. Typically House members adopted the name of their house as their last name. This is why we made our own house the house of cart3l. This is why we collect not only memories but individuals.

Just like our favorite culture we have adopted them as a part of our theme. Why did we pick this theme? because drag queens are strong individuals who go trough so much and we relate to them. They own their talents and their strengths just like us. We are a new age. We talk like these queens. We use words that we have adopted from them and from our learnings from school. We are about positivity and love. That is the foundation of drag culture and the gay community. It’s pride month wear your pride. Learn and educate the world about us. There is too much hate going on in this world and it’s up to us to change that. It’s up to us to rise and change the societies views. Always and forever cart3lfromlove.com.
